From May 9th to May 15th Yurek Pharmacy and the rest of Canada in honouring National Nursing Week. This week we celebrate our nurses and reflect on the role of nursing as the backbone of healthcare in our country. Nurses are the hands-on, frontline workers who tirelessly advocate for you, your loved ones, and every patient in their care. They humanize medical care in the face you see, the voice you hear, and the support you feel in times of crisis.
Designating one week annually to honour nursing in Canada began in 1985 when the Canadian Nurses Association petitioned to name the week of May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday, National Nurses Week. In 1993, the word Nurses was changed to Nursing to encompass the entire discipline of nursing.
To celebrate this year, the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) has selected the theme #WeAnswerTheCall to “showcase the many roles that nurses play in a patient’s healthcare journey.” Likewise, the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) will honour National Nursing Week with the theme Nursing Through Crisis. Both organizations encourage everyone to raise awareness in support of our nurses.
