You’ve been cooped up at home for many months and you’re fed up with cocooning indoors. It’s time we embrace the joys of winter and open-air living.
This year, many snowbirds are finding it too risky to head south. Also, they cannot socialize the way they would like to. As a result, many of them are dreading an l-o-n-g and b-o-r-i-n-g winter.
According to the World Happiness Report, Norway is one of the happiest places on earth. Norwegians also spend a lot of time outside. Coincidence? Aimee Hines, our Director of HR and Quality. “Winter is full of opportunities for enjoyment and fun, and this attitude helps make colder months bearable by boosting both our physical and mental wellness.”
“Attitude is everything,” Diane explains. “When your attitude about winter is positive, you’re more likely to look for opportunities to have fun.”
During COVID, this is especially important as being cooped up inside all day can be very socially isolating and detrimental to your already stressed mental health. Winter is a great opportunity to go for a socially distanced walk with a friend. This is a chance to connect with others safely, breathe in the fresh cool air, and enjoy the lovely and serene winter views. Bonus points if you brought your favourite hot beverage with you!

Loving Winter 101
Diana (Pharmacist) says snowshoeing is the easiest winter activity for beginners. You can pick up a pair of lightweight aluminum snowshoes inexpensively. They are simple to slip on and fun to use. Several people could also share one pair (and use them at different times, of course).
You use the poles to give you even better stability and go anywhere if you have the right snow cover. Snowshoeing is a fun workout; it’s very safe, and an opportunity to spend time with your family and friends outdoors — while keeping the recommended distance.

Whether you’re a teenager or well into your retirement, cross country skiing is fun and has the following benefits:
