When you hear “phone addiction,” you likely picture a teenager. However, they’re not the only phone-addicted generation. It turns out that Boomers are also addicted to their screens.
According to a recent report, half of Boomers (ages 59-77) spend over three hours a day on their smartphones, with one in five clocking in at over five hours!
A survey of 2000 Boomers revealed that:
- 40% feel anxious when they don’t have access to their phones.
- 50% check their phones within an hour of waking up.
- 30% attempted to cut back on their screen time but couldn’t.
- 30% use their phones during meals.
Not everyone who spends hours on their phone is necessarily addicted. However, these habits can be hard to break. Also, depending on how one uses their phone, it can interfere with their life, relationships, or mental health.
If you’re looking to unplug, you don’t have to quit cold turkey. Consider starting small by not going on your phone within an hour of waking up. Or setting timers for how long to stay on your phone. By creating small goals, over time, you’ll figure out how much screen time is best for you, and you’ll feel better about your choice!
