Being a single working mom can feel like having two full-time jobs—and somehow being expected to excel at both. Between work responsibilities, school schedules, meals, bills, and sports, there may be very little time left for you.
The good news? You are not expected to do everything perfectly.
Start by deciding what truly matters and giving yourself permission to let some things go. The cupcakes don’t need to look perfect, dishes can be in the sink, and every school project doesn’t need to become a family production.
Set boundaries, too. When you’re working, focus on work. When you’re with your children, put the phone away when possible and give them your attention. Even a regular family dinner can become a valuable time to reconnect.
Don’t be afraid to say “no”—or to ask for help. A neighbour, family member, friend or colleague may be happy to lend a hand.
Most importantly, don’t continually put yourself last. Eating well, staying active, getting enough sleep and finding even small moments to recharge aren’t indulgences.
Your children don’t need a perfect mom. They need one who shows them that life can be challenging, but with resilience, resourcefulness and a little help, you can keep moving forward—and be the best mom you can be.
