At the end of a long day, catching up on messages and feeds can be a relaxing moment for me. But if I’m not careful, a quick breather on the phone can quickly spiral into excessive screen time.
I’m sure you know at least one person whose screen time has taken a toll on their mental health, sleep quality, and even relationships. Finding a balance that allows us to stay connected without being confined to “doom-scrolling” is essential.
Here are a few strategies on how you can reclaim “me time”:
- Set boundaries: Establish specific times for checking emails and social media.
- Screen-free zones: Designate areas in your home where devices are not allowed.
- Mindful, always: Be purposeful when and why you need to use your devices
- Have fun offline: Rediscover your love for activities that don’t involve a screen, like reading or gardening. Even better if these hobbies involve your friends and family!
In today’s hyper-connected world, it’s hard to completely unplug when so much of our work and personal lives are inevitably online. But by focusing on what is truly valuable or inspiring to us, we can maintain a healthy digital diet without being overwhelmed.
By making a conscious effort, we can live in harmony with technology and be able to enjoy quality time alone, allowing us to feel refreshed for life’s next big challenge.
With that said, what is your favourite “me time” hack?
