The treatment of chronic illnesses, like high blood pressure, often includes the use of prescription medications, which are effective in combating many illnesses.  However approximately 50% of patients do not take them as prescribed.  The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes that improving people’s compliance with prescription therapy may have a far greater impact on the health of the population than any medical breakthroughs.  Poor compliance (not taking one’s medication as prescribed) leads to increased sickness and death.  It has been estimated that poor compliance with medication therapies costs the United States healthcare system over $100 billion.

Improving compliance to medication therapy is complex and pharmacies are uniquely positioned to address this problem.  Yurek Pharmasync™ is one practical solution.  It has three components:

The first step is to synchronize your medications so that they come due for renewal at the same time.  You do not have to keep track of your medications to reorder them, we will do that for you.

The second step is a phone call from the pharmacy to arrange for renewal of your prescriptions.  It is at this time that we ask whether you have had any recent doctor visits that may have changed your medication therapy.

The third step is a meeting with one of our pharmacists every three months to talk about your medications.  It is at this step when our pharmacists identify opportunities to improve your prescription therapy (e.g. adjust dosage, eliminate some medication).

This program has proven effective in helping our patients to manage their medication therapies.  Our pharmacists will take the time necessary to help you understand your illness.  We will work with you and your physician to develop a medication program tailored to your needs.  Whether it is offering non-prescription solutions to your illness or packaging your medications to help you better remember to take them properly, our pharmacists are trained to find the best solution for you.
