We all know that laughter is the best medicine. But for me it’s more than that. A good chuckle is a quick and effective stressbuster. Whether I’m giggling at a funny meme or roaring at a video online, I’m doing my body a huge favour.
Here’s how:
First, laughter pumps up my oxygen levels and gets my heart and muscles working. That’s why I often feel a rush of energy and relaxation afterward. It even chills out my stress response—my heart rate and blood pressure drop, leaving me feeling calm.
But it’s not just a quick fix. Over time, laughter boosts our immune system and helps our body fight off stress. It can also ease pain by triggering natural painkillers, improve our mood, and even make us more resilient in tough situations.
Want more laughs? Start small. I keep a stash of funny photos, movies, or podcasts handy. My siblings and I were blessed to have been raised in a family that, even in tough situations, looked for the humour in life. The more I laugh—whether it’s intentional or spontaneous—the better I feel.
So next time life gets stressful, just laugh it off (and maybe share a meme or two). You’ll be surprised how much better you’ll feel!
