As the weather’s gotten nicer, my kids are riding their bikes more often. Of course, I always watch them bike down the street. They’re always eager to race each other and show me how much they’ve improved since last year. Not only is biking good for their health, but it also teaches them many valuable life lessons.
When they first started learning how to run a bicycle, they would frequently fall over. However, each time they fell, they would get back up and try again. Now that they are more experienced, they don’t fall over anymore. Yet, by falling and getting up, they built resilience and determination to learn and keep going.
Research has shown that kids become more independent when riding a bike. In the spring and summer, my kids bike to the park or a friend’s house whenever they want. By knowing how to ride a bike, I also notice that they feel a greater sense of accomplishment.
Watching my kids bike has inspired me to pull out my old bike. While it has been a while since I last rode, I’m confident that I’ll be able to pick it back up quickly. If my kids have taught me anything, it’s to always keep moving forward!
