As pharmacists, we see firsthand the devastating impact tobacco and vaping have on individuals and families. That’s why we want to recognize World No Tobacco Day on May 31 —a global call to action to raise awareness of the dangers of tobacco use and promote healthier, smoke-free lives.
Tobacco remains the leading cause of preventable disease and premature death in Ontario, claiming 16,000 lives each year—more than alcohol, drugs, suicide, homicide, and car crashes combined. Despite this, over 1.5 million Ontarians still smoke!
Ontario’s Smoke-Free Ontario strategy is making progress. With a focus on cessation, prevention, and protection, we aim to reduce the smoking rate to below 10%. This includes strong laws, public education, and support for those trying to quit—including access to nicotine replacement therapy and counseling.
As your pharmacists, we’re here to help. Whether you’re ready to quit smoking or just exploring your options, we offer guidance, tools, and support every step of the way.
Let’s work together to protect your health and the health of future generations. You deserve to breathe clean air, live longer, and feel better. Let’s make tobacco a thing of the past—starting today.
