Chatting with our clients made me realize that many locals set “summer resolutions”—easy-to-achieve seasonal goals that celebrate the best of our area. Unlike January resolutions, summer goals feel lighter, more enjoyable, and perfect for these warm, adventure-filled months.

I’ve heard the following ideas:

  1. Exploring local events.

July brings back community favourites like and Seniors’ Picnic (July 9) in Pinafore Park. Nostalgia Nights Vintage Car Show is on Talbot Street (July 12), while London’s Sunfest in Victoria Park (July 3–6) offers global music and food just a short drive away. Western Fair Farmers’ Market and Home County Music & Art Festival also attract crowds.

  1. Discovering nearby nature.

A few clients have mentioned taking the time to walk the Elgin Trail, paddle Dalewood Reservoir, or hike in Kettle Creek Conservation Area. For beach lovers, Port Stanley is just minutes away.

  1. Eating local and fresh.

St. Thomas’ Horton Farmers’ Market and London’s Covent Garden Market seem to be our clients’ favourite spots for picking up fresh produce, local meats, and artisanal treats.

  1. Stayin’ Alive outside.

Our clients chat about biking the Thames Valley Parkway, doing yoga in the park, and playing in a local softball league. Personally, I enjoy pickleball. On May 30th, we hosted our first Charity Pickleball Tournament in support of Inn out of the Cold. It was a lot of fun! Stayin’ Alive outdoors is a popular summer resolution.

It’s a fair exchange of ideas. I give my patients tips about their health, and they tell me how they embrace local life and create summer resolutions—fun, doable, and rooted in community.
