Those of you who knew my Dad, probably remember him as a man whose life philosophy included “eat, drink and be merry.” I admired his interpersonal skills and many great friendships; but years ago, I discovered that I didn’t need an alcoholic drink to have fun.
And recently, I’ve been experiencing something different among people over 55 that confirms my discovery. A concept that’s shifting the vibe of social scenes — and it smells healthy. Let’s call them mocktail parties!
I find this newest event refreshing; it swaps cocktails for mocktails (including a variety of coffees and teas) late nights for light-filled venues, and hangovers for actual good vibes.
The mocktail party is still a party — just earlier and smarter. It gives you energy without wrecking your weekend. No taxis, no bar tab, just positive energy and healthier drinks.
Think sparkling blood orange mocktail, green tea virgin sangria, iced lattes, espresso martinis (alcoholic but zero-proof), and smoothies—crafted drinks designed to fuel friendship, not fog it. Fresh baked goods replace bar snacks, while your favourite tunes set the tone for your gathering—without needing to consume alcohol to enjoy it.
The more I rethink how (and why) I go out, events like the mocktail party offers a fun way to get together without sacrificing the next morning or my mental clarity.
It’s more than a trend. It’s a generational reset on what it means to socialize—and from what I see, it’ll help you feel better.
