Starting a new chapter here in London has reminded me of why I became a pharmacist in the first place—helping people feel their best every day. Health doesn’t have to mean complicated routines or expensive habits. The small, consistent choices you make often matter the most.
Here are five healthy living tips I personally believe in:
- Keep Moving, Every Day
- You don’t need to run marathons.
- A 20–30 minute walk around our neighbourhood can reduce stress, improve sleep, and support heart health.
- Consider movement as a form of medicine—it is most effective when practiced daily.
- Prioritize Sleep
- Many underestimate how powerful sleep is.
- Poor sleep affects your mood, memory, and even your immune system.
- Aim for 7–8 hours and a consistent bedtime, even on weekends.
- Stay Hydrated
- Most people don’t drink enough water.
- Dehydration can cause headaches, fatigue, and low concentration.
- Carrying a refillable water bottle is a simple way to stay on track.
- Review Your Medications
- As a pharmacist, I see how important proper medication management is for health. Bring your medications in once a year for a review. This helps identify interactions, duplications, or unnecessary side effects before they become bigger issues.
- Don’t Neglect Mental Health
- Your physical and mental health are connected.
- Making time to talk with friends, practice mindfulness/spirituality, or simply reduce screen time can lower stress. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to reach out; support is available. In particular, you can contact CMHA Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services, ConnexOntario, or 211 Ontario for assistance.
Healthy living isn’t about perfection. It’s about building habits that work for you and sticking with them. If you have questions about your health, medications, or lifestyle choices, I am here to assist you.
