Let’s face it, balancing work and family for busy working moms is challenging. But we can get resourceful and enjoy quality time with our kids during the summer. Here are my suggestions:
Plan
- Just like you would for work meetings, set aside time for your family.
- Use weekends for longer activities or day trips that create memories.
Evenings
- Try to have dinner together as a family and catch up on each other’s day.
- Go for an evening walk or bike ride in the neighbourhood. You’ll unwind and chat.
Technology
- If your kids play video games, learn to play with them. Otherwise, they’ll play with friends and strangers, and you’ll be left out.
- Go virtual tours of zoos, museums, or anything that interests them.
- Sign up for online workshops that you can do together, such as cooking or art.
At-Home Activities
- Can you set up a craft or DIY corner at home for creative projects?
- Cooking together is educational and fun and brings you closer.
Outdoor Activities
- A sprinkler can be a blast! Backyard is a great place to introduce your kids to camping.
- Sports like soccer, baseball, or frisbee in the a nearby park are always enjoyable.
Exploring & Learning
- Go for nature walks and explore local trails, teaching your kids about plants and wildlife.
- Visit the library to pick out books and participate in their programs.
New Traditions
- Watch a movie together with popcorn and snacks.
- Dedicate an evening to playing board games or card games.
Household Tasks
- Teach kids about gardening and have them help with planting and caring for the garden.
- Turn chores into a fun activity that you can do together, like organizing a room or decorating.
Enjoying quality time with your kids takes a bit of planning and creativity.
