Getting ready for your next cruise? We’ve prepared a list of things to do to make sure you stay healthy, hydrated and happy while on your journey.
Before Your Cruise
- Update vaccinations: make sure all mandatory vaccinations are up to date.
- Adjust your sleep: work on adjusting your sleep schedule over 2 to 3 days to bring you closer to your destination’s time zone.
- Consider travel insurance: it will ensure you’re covered in case of emergencies.
What to Pack
- Medications: pack any medications you have in advance; that way there’s less of a risk of forgetting to pack them
- Hygiene supplies: look for antibacterial wipes and hand sanitizers.
- Sun protection: bring sunscreen! Look for 30 SPF for daily use and SPF 50 or more for extended activities outside.
While on Board
- Wash hands frequently: especially before meals or after touching surfaces such as railings or door handles.
- Disinfect your cabin: wipe down your cabin upon arrival to help prevent germs from spreading.
- Eat sensibly: while it’s tempting to take advantage of the all-you-can-eat buffet, make sure you’re eating some healthy foods.
- Stay hydrated: drink lots of water, especially when out in the sun.
- Protect your skin: regularly apply sunscreen every 2 hours to avoid sunburn.
- Keep moving: take walks, do activities, and go on excursions to get your steps in.
If You Become Sick
- Report symptoms promptly: let medical staff know if you’re feeling under the weather.
- Manage seasickness: try taking Gravol or lying down and keeping your head still.
- Prevent spreading illness: limit contact with others, wear a mask, get lots of rest, and drink plenty of water.
A little preparation goes a long way—so you can make waves, not trips to the ship’s doctor. Bon voyage!
