Have you tasted goji berries? This small fruit is native to East Asia and packed with massive health benefits.
If you aren’t familiar with goji berries, they are bright red fruit from a shrub that’s becoming rightfully popular. They have a slightly sweet, tangy flavour that is sort of like a hybrid of a cranberry and a cherry. Usually you can find dried variants of the berry at the grocery store.
Goji berries are considered a “superfood”, due to the sheer amount of nutrients they contain such as vitamin A, vitamin C, fibre, iron, zinc, and antioxidants. Perhaps goji berries’ greatest health benefit is that they can boost your immune system, thanks to the vitamin C and zinc.
Since goji berries are rich in antioxidants, they can help protect against cell damage from free radicals (unstable molecules found in the body). While no sole food can prevent chronic disease, antioxidants found in goji berries can help to fight off cell damage.
You can incorporate dried goji berries into a wide variety of meals or eat them on their own as a snack. Popular options include adding goji berries to smoothies, oatmeal or trail mixes. So next time you’re craving something new, why not give goji berries a go?
