Paula's Tenth Week on Ideal Protein

Before I start talking about my week, let me just say one thing…BREAD!!! Oh, how I’ve waited for this day! Alright, let me back up a little bit and start from the beginning. Phase three started mid-way through this week. You know what Phase three means? Bread! As I’ve mentioned in my previous blogs, I’ve lost count of how many dreams I’ve had about bread.


Now that I’ve said the word bread three times (well four now) I’m calmer. Let’s get into what challenges phase three entailed. Well, the biggest challenge was to understand exactly what and how much I was supposed to be putting in my body. Linda, our coach, helped A LOT! Lots of back and forth with probably very stupid questions being asked by me. Of course, she was very patient and explained with as many examples as she could.


Why was phase three so challenging, you ask? Well, on phase three you begin to slowly reintroduce carbs to your body. This way, you avoid shocking your system. At breakfast you need a certain amount of grains, carbs, protein and fat/dairy. This was not the hard part. Figuring out what constituted each item was difficult. Of course, with both Cody and Linda’s help, I managed to wrap my brain around everything and after the first couple of days, I was able to make my own breakfast without asking too many questions.


Other than bread, we can now eat fruit (because of the IP drink mixes, I didn’t miss them as much), bacon (yes, I know, who thought!), butter and more. Honestly, my body has not yet gotten used to having a larger breakfast because when lunch comes around, I’m never hungry!


I am, however, finding it difficult to fit in my morning protein. I just haven’t found the time to make eggs bright and early (I am NOT a morning person). Before this week, I always fried my bacon in a pan. Due to time constraints as well as fat content, I have been eating microwavable bacon! Surprisingly, I don’t want bacon every day! I’m sure I’ll figure it out in the days to come.


Other than getting into phase three, Cody and I went to the movies for the first time since starting the program. I will admit, I’ve been kind of avoiding it. The smell of the popcorn and the temptation of nachos…I didn’t think I could handle it. BUT! We really wanted to see Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. So we did, and we remained strong! We brought some Ideal Protein snacks and ate them in the theatre, which really helped (thanks for the tip Linda!).


Christmas is now so close! This week, I lost 2lbs exact. This brings my total to 29 lbs lost. You know what this means? When I see my family at Christmas and they ask how much I’ve lost, I can say, “just under 30 lbs” which is quite impressive, don’t you think?
